He co-founded the Delhi National Bank and was its first President (1839 to 1849), and was also a member of the town's Board of Supervisors in 1842 and 1843. Gould unsuccessfully ran for the United States House twice (1840, 1844) before winning a seat in the Thirty-first Congress; he declined to seek a second term in 1850.
