Charles Augustus Foote, jr., was born at Delhi, New York, 18 March, 1818 to Charles Augustus Foote and Maria Baldwin

He died at Delhi, 28 February, 1896; buried Woodland Cemetery, Delhi, Delaware county, New York.

He married 11 September, 1844 Sally Adelia Johnson, daughter of Elias Johnson [Foote Hist;338; "18 Sept." Raitt, "Marriages and Deaths in the Delaware Gazette, 1837-1849"]

"Inheriting good competence while still a child, he erected a building during his minority, and for over 60 years conducted there a mercantile and manufacturing business, meanwhile busied with numberless outside interests. Held most of the town offices, was county treasurer for three successive terms. One of the organizers and chief pillar of his church, like his father and grandfather, Trustee of Delaware Academy, Director of the Bank, Com[misioner] of Railroad, and for a few years in business in California where his building was twice swept away, first by the great flood, then by fire. Always gentle and courteous, the village papers said of him at his death, 'The last gentleman of the old school in our midst has passed away.'” —kaf

Their children were:

1. Katherine Adelia Foote, b. 27 Sept., 1845, “Active in local affairs, and with a large social acquaintance outside Delhi. Member of D. A. R. and County Regent for a number of years. Secretary of State Charities Aid for 25 years. Secretary for Columbia Exposition, etc.” [Foote Hist;338]. She was an editor of a book, transcriptions, of letters to her gr. grandfather, Ebenezer Foote. She lived Delhi, visited Manhattan every season for Opera during which time she would stay in a hotel just around the corner from the old Opera House [jpf;90].

Mr. Foote, who has been seriously ill for a week or so past, died at his residence in this village on Friday morning. He was one of our oldest and most esteemed residents, having been born in this village March 18th, 1818, and was a grandson of Judge Foote, one of the most prominent early pioneers of the town, who came to Delhi in 1797.
Mr. Foote has long been engaged in business here; was always genial, active and influential in the social and political activities of the county; for many years an ardent supporter, leading member and Deacon in the Baptist Church in this place, which even more than the rest of his fellow citizens, has especial reason to cherish his memory and take heart and hope from his faithful and self-sacrificing record, and bright and unwavering example.
He faithfully filled many positions of public trust; was County Treasurer of Delaware County for nine years- from 1861 to 1870; Town Clerk, Trustee of Delaware Academy, leading trustee of his Church, Director of Delaware Bank, Treasurer of Delaware County Bible Society,etc., in all of which he served with faithfulness and fidelity.
He leaves one daughter, Miss Catherine Foote, of this village, and numerous other relatives.
Though long past his three score and ten, his greetings were cordial and his presence among our citizens still often seen and prized, and he will be greatly missed by many besides his family, his church and his old comrades, who will recall fondly the memory of his cheerful, active, blameless and well spent life.
Memorial services will be held at the Baptist church on Sabbath, at 10:30 a.m., and the funeral will be attended from the same place at 2 o'clock p.m.
