Biography

Hon. Jacob Ten Broeck the was born on the Ten Broeck homestead at Germantown, Clermont, Columbia Co, NY on May 13, 1800. In 1844 he removed to Hudson leaving his son Jacob Wessel the old homestead; was made a charter director of the Farmers National Bank of Hudson at its organization in 1839; and he was the oldest officer of that institution at the time of his death in 1883. During the troublous times of the Civil war he efficiently served as mayor of Hudson, and was also a member of the Assembly from Columbia county, in later years. He married Anna Benner who was born November 15, 1798, and was a daughter of Hendrick Benner of the town of Red Hook, Dutchess county, NY. She died March 26 1879. • 1850 census, Greenport, Columbia, New York: Jacob [1] and Ann Tenbroeck with children Jacob W. (age 26), Wm H. (24), Helen M. (age 26), Jane A. (age 22), Andrew J. (age 18), Mary E. (age 15). Also a black female, Jane Vanvecten [2] and a farmer, Jordon Doyle [2]Jacob and son Jacob were farmers. They had property worth $11,000.
• 1860 census, NY State, 3 W. Hudson, Columbia County, NY
• 1870 census, Hudson Ward 3, Columbia, New York: Jacob (age 70) and Ann (age 72) Tenbroeck with daughter Christina C. age (42). Jacob was "without occupation." His property was valued at $20,000 and $12,000. Also listed was Mary E. (age 31) and Refine L. (age 40) Rossman. His occupation was Ret. Stoves & Tin Ware. Also listed was Mary Gooney[2], a domestic servant.
• 1880 census, Warren Street, Hudson, Columbia, New York: Jacob TenBroeck (age 80) with his daughter, Christina R. Tenbroeck (age 45) and a servant, Ellen Monohon (age 21). Jacob was a retired widower.

Jacob Tenbroeck married Anna Brenner on November 06, 1821 in Red Hook, NY at St. John's Church. Anna Brenner was born November 15, 1798 in Red Hook, Dutchess Co, NY[3] , and died March 26, 1879 in Columbia Co, NY[3].

Jacob W. Tenbroeck, b. 1824 Wm H. Tenbroeck, b, 1826 Helen M. Tenbroeck, b, 1824 Jane A. Tenbroeck, b, 1828. Jane Ann Ten Broeck married William R. Moore (1826-1913). This union produced 5 children, Anna B. (1851-1929), William B.(1853-1927), Helen (Ella) Rowe Morrison (1855-1941), Hattie (Harriet) Elizabeth (1856-1882), and Minnie (Mary Jane) (1859-1896). Andrew J. Tenbroeck, b, 1832 Mary E. Tenbroeck, b, 1835 Christina Tenbroeck, b, 1828 or 1835. Christina was found living at home in the 1870 and 1880 census reports. Death Jacob Tenbroeck died March 24, 1883 in Hudson, Columbia Co, NY[3]. His wife Anna predeceased him.
