Roses From The Garden Of Eveline Darling Morgan (1870 – 1961). In a brass vase. Hartland, Vermont. No date, probably 20th century. 24 cm total height. 12.5 cm vase.

A Hartland native and one of the founders of the Hartland Nature Club, Eveline Morgan also was involved in the various Hartland causes and the Woodstock, Vermont, Village Beautification Club. She was author of several books on flora and fauna including a history of the Hartland Nature Club (1923) and, with Richard Marble, a list of birds in the Hartland and Woodstock vicinity (1935). These roses are from the garden of her home on Dunham Hill, “The Highlands”, renovated in 1907 and noted as a dramatic, “windswept” site.

Eveline’s sister, Nancy Darling (1862 – 1932) was the president and another founder of the Hartland Nature Club. A historian, Miss Darling was also author of a history of Hartland (published serially in The Vermonter magazine, White River Jct., in 1913).

Brass vase is from the collection of Bertha Knapp, (1859 – 1924) a friend and fellow club-member.
