Chalices from a Russian Church Wooden Chalices used in the Russian Orthodox Communion. n.d. Donation to the Museum in 1997.

At one point these items were exhibited with Dried and Shrunken Long White Gloves. Dried, shrunken, white womens’ gloves. Wood and leather in somewhat dusty case. As an ensemble, this display gained a reputation at the time as “The Adulation of Franz Liszt,” among members of the Upper Valley music community, and formed part of the series Musicians and Others from the Trade Publications. The proper title for this item, however, was listed on its label — "Chalices from a Russian Church and Dried and Shrunken Gloves." It was unknown, at that time, whether these items should have been a part of our natural history, musical, or Religious Studies Collections. The bifurcation of these items into two categories, as well as the fluid cross-references of our digital index, has rendered these quandaries immaterial.
