JQA Diary, volume 35 23 July 1824
23. VI:30. Swam with John and Antoine, an hour and 35 minutes. Mr Everett went with Dr Sewall to Mount-Vernon. At the Office. Captain Jackson of the revenue Cutter came, and told me that Mr Dickins had informed him, that he was not removed; and that Mr Crawford proposed to build another Cutter— He applied also again for payment of 300 dollars paid by him to a lawyer as Counsel for him at Pensacola, on the trial of a vessel carried in by him at a time when there was no District Attorney at Pensacola. There is question whether it can be put on public account. Young Bourne, late Captain of the Marine Corps came again to solicit influence to obtain his restoration. The President and Secretary of the Navy had determined to restore him; but by a new act of indiscretion he has again forfeited their favorable disposition— I told him I would do what I could for him; but that it was impossible long to befriend a man who was his own enemy— I wrote to L. Cheves and began a letter to Mr Salazar— Evening with Mrs Adams— Miss Ann M’Knight came to pass some days with Mary Hellen.
